The Top 10 Reasons Couples Choose Tahitian Honeymoons

With so many gorgeous places in the world to choose from, it's no wonder couples have a hard time deciding where to honeymoon. There are lots of good reasons why tons of newlyweds head to Tahiti (a.k.a. "The Island of Love"), but we've narrowed it down to our top 10 favorites.

1. The Beaches
Crystal blue waters lapping gently on powdery sand… if that's your honeymoon fantasy, you won't find bluer waters or sand more powdery than the beaches of French Polynesia. You have your choice of lagoons edged with sugar-white sand, or crashing surf that draws surfers from all around the world.

2. The Tahitian Wedding Ceremony
This one's just for you and your husband - a non-legally binding but super romantic Polynesian ceremony on the beach. With the warm sand beneath your feet and the sun dipping into the ocean, you and your beloved can renew your vows in an cozy, flower-laden ceremony complete with exotic music and dancers if you like.

3. The Diving
The French-Polynesian waters surrounding Tahiti are not only gorgeous, but also teeming with over 800 different species of marine life. Whether you're an expert or have never dived before, the surrounding ocean and lagoons of the island are too fabulous to go unexplored.

4. The Falls
Sure, there are lots of islands that have waterfalls you can frolic beneath with your new hubby. But how many are 985 feet tall like Fautaua Falls in Tahiti? Not many. If you're not up to the all-day hike to Fautaua, the Faarumai Waterfalls are easily reached and absolutely beautiful too.

5. The Resorts
We're talking five-star service here, and all the amenities. Spas, suites, tennis courts, pools, and tropical gardens await, as well as fabulous restaurants and first-class accommodations. You can even get all-inclusive deals that include sightseeing tours and meals.

6. Two Words: Bora Bora
Hawaii has Maui, and Tahiti has Bora Bora… the magical paradise that inspired "South Pacific." The nearby island's views are achingly romantic, and the entire island can easily be toured by plane or by water. The peaks and valleys are legendary, as is the glistening lagoon where adventurous couples can snorkel with sharks.

7. The Mountains
You don't have to be an expert mountain climber to scale the peaks of Tahiti, and the views of the ocean are incredible. Mt. Orohena and Mt. Pitohiti are the two highest mountains on the island, and each can be hiked in a day.

8. The Over-Water Bungalows
Imagine a fully appointed suite resting on stilts over the azure water, the glass bottom illuminated at night so you can see the sea life swimming below. You don't even have to leave your room to appreciate the beauty of Tahiti (and if you're on your honeymoon, leaving your room might not be a priority).

9. The Weather
How does eight hours of sunshine a day sound? Year-round? Although Tahiti does indeed experience the occasional shower, they are short and far between, and the temperature stays between 70-85°F all the time. All the time.

10. The Vibe
Gorgeous Polynesian dancers laden with flowers, soothing island music, balmy breezes, and fresh seafood - stress just melts away when you're surrounded by wonders like these. After the bustle of a wedding, the casual atmosphere and salty air is like heaven.
