Blended Family Photos: No Worries!

It's your day at last. The flowers are beautiful, the ceremony vows are perfect and you can't wait for the party to begin. However, you have a blended family. You may have stepparents, step siblings, half siblings, and are wondering how you can make everyone just get along -- especially during the family photo session. This scenario is becoming more and more common, so do not feel alone!

The good news is that with a little foresight, the family photo session can be quick and easy. Remember, it's always a good idea to have the family photos directly following the ceremony, before people wander off for a bite to eat or to socialize. If your photographer is a prepared professional, he or she will contact you the week of the wedding and get all of the particulars of your unique family. Having a list of first names and their role is a great help for the photographer, as well as what groupings you prefer.

If you do want a photograph of your biological, now-divorced parents, for example, the photographer can place the bride and groom in the middle, and parents on either side -- creating a visually pleasing photo where the divorced couple needn't stand next to one another. Then, it is easy enough for the biological parent to step out and the stepparent to step in. Voila! Everyone feels included and happy.

The pre-wedding discussion and list not only ensure diplomacy, but also make the family photo session move quickly so that your wedding photographer may move onto the stars of the show -- the new wedding couple! Now, you are done with the family photos and can concentrate fully on each other, and the bridal portraits will be spectacular!
