The Rubber Alligator

My father and I had a game that we would play that went on for years, It involved a rubber alligator that we would hide and surprise each other with. Who ever found it would re-hide it to surprise the other person. We would put it in cabinets, under pillows and sometimes it wouldn't show up for months. I got it about 8 months before my wedding and decided to hold on to it. I made special arrangements with the host and catering hall to bring my fathers dinner with a covered plate. My father was told that the bride and groom made "special arrangements for his dinner" so he didn't need to pick from the usual menu. He got the shock of his life when he took off the cover and found the rubber alligator staring at his face with some nice grapes for garnish. The picture of him laughing uncontrollably is the best picture we have of the party. During the service the 4 year old twin flower girls were instructed by their Mom to drop all the flowers along the path and that they should have them all gone by the time they got to the front. One of the girls got to the front and burst into tears because she had petals left so she turned the bucket over and made a big mound just before the altar. The audience roared. Taking the inexpensive route, we asked my sister to videotape the reception and a relative to videotape it as well. My sisters camera ran out of batteries and only got part of the service and our relative found out that there was a table issue. Apparently there was a feud going on between 2 couples and they refused to talk to each other. Unfortunately the relative had the same table assigned as the other couple which made them leave before touching any food. So instead of a video we have fond memories of a silly family feud and a major seating chart blunder. We loved to dance and wanted to get the party off to a fast start. Instead of the usual slow dance, we did a professionally choreographed swing dance to "In the Mood" The band leader when introducing our first song, said that "in all his years he has never played anything like this and that this song really needs no introduction." Well the party started off with a bang just like we hoped. My mother in law decided to make an improvisational speech that was fun and in it she said that she hoped we would have grand kids soon. I jumped up and said "don't worry you only have to wait about 6 months!" Just about everyone knew we were kidding and everyone had a good laugh. But in 6 months we got a card from someone congratulating us on our new baby that didn't arrive until about 2 years later! All in all, a great day.
