The Clothes Didn't Fit

My husband and I have a photography business and have been shooting weddings for close to 7 years. Two years ago we experienced a wedding that has been the most traumatic to date. What had started out as a beautiful day quickly turned into Murphy's Law...whatever could go wrong, did go wrong. A little background...my husband had some medical problems in which he had his colon removed two weeks prior to the wedding. I also happened to be 8 months pregnant at the time. This wedding had been booked prior to these two major events happening in our lives. As a result, I was going to be shooting the wedding solo because my husband was not able to be there due to his health. The bonus for us during this time was that we knew the bride's family so they understood our circumstances. What I thought would be a smooth day of events turned out to be the exact opposite. First of all, the bride happened to be 9 months pregnant (she actually had the baby within a week after the wedding). Because of this a family friend was going to custom make her dress. You can't buy a dress months in advance when you are pregnant, obviously. Well...the dress wasn't finished. The lady called on her way to the church and said that the dress was going to need a few finishing touches. The bride tried it on and not only was it not finished, but it didn't fit either. Panic struck the bride and everyone started coming up with ideas. The best one was to call an area bridal store, explain the situation, and see if a dress would be available. Thankfully the bridal store was sympathetic and let the bride borrow a dress for the day...for free. While they were waiting for the dress, they found out that the groom's tuxedo did not fit. They had to run back to the tux shop and find a tux that would work. While all of this was happening, I was trying to be as prepared as possible so that the pictures would be the least stressful event of the day. I thought I would try and find the flowers and start taking some pictures of them. I asked the bride's mother if they were there yet and due to all of the aforementioned problems they hadn't even thought about the flowers. And no...they weren't there. They called the flower shop and found out that the order had been misplaced. The flower order had not even been started!! The shop worked like crazy to have the flowers to the church by the start of the ceremony. Finally the chaos did end and the bride and groom got married. We managed to get all of the pictures taken after the ceremony. What started out to be a disastrous day turned out to be a beautiful day. Two years later the couple is happily married with two children. My husband is healthy and feeling wonderful. We have a little boy and a photography business that are growing like crazy.
