How to Execute Best Man Duties

There's a lot more to being best man than planning the bachelor party and standing next to the groom. In large part, you will perform many of the wedding tasks so the groom doesn't have to worry about them, and help out your brother or friend at a time when he needs you most.

Instructions

STEP 1: Start saving. You'll be paying for your tuxedo, the bachelor party and gifts, as well as airfare and hotel costs.

STEP 2: Consult with the groom about the attire for the male attendants. Arrange for all groomsmen's tux rentals, including their measurements. You'll also be in charge of returning them.

STEP 3: See 332 Plan a Bachelor or Bachelorette Party.

STEP 4: Prepare a sentimental or funny toast for the rehearsal dinner and reception. If you're shy, simply ask everyone to raise their glasses to the couple's happiness and new life. Be a class act: Don't humiliate the groom or the bride.

STEP 5: Take charge of the getaway car. Make sure it arrives on time, and decide if and how the groomsmen will decorate it.

STEP 6: Keep the groom calm before the ceremony. Give him water or anything else he needs. Humor helps.

STEP 7: Lead the groomsmen in ushering guests into the church and bridesmaids down the aisle.
