Afraid to See His Soul Through His Eyes

Wow! I cannot believe this contest, I think I have a winner for you! Okay, this is crazy and I hope I put it in good words to shorten it up, but I want you to know every word is true! I was living in Yuma, AZ and had taught 4th grade for two years. Right before summer break, I decided that I needed a change and had a verbal contract with a Jr. High down in Yuma for the following year. Meanwhile, My brother (who is 29) and his girlfriend of 6 years were getting married in Omaha, NE the weekend right after school got out for me this last summer. After arriving in Omaha and attending the rehearsal dinner, the groomsmen, my cousins, and I met at my Uncle's to play poker. That is when I met my future husband, Dirk for the first time. It was crazy. I couldn't even look at him the night at the poker table because there was just something about him that made him seem superior to me, but I did check his ring finger to see if he was taken! Here I was thinking about him, but little did I know he was doing the same about me (I found out later). The following day or you could say the wedding day, it was my job to pin all the flowers on the groomsmen and assist them in anyway along with the bride (yes, I was the personal attendant). As I was pinning on the flowers to the groomsmen, here comes Dirk (one of the groomsmen). It was so weird, for some reason I could not pin his flower on and I couldn't look at him. There was just something there and it was odd! Again, later he had told me that when I did that he just knew something too (okay this is not cheesy, you just have to know this man) and he was crushed when he found out that I was not riding in the limo to the reception. We get to the reception and I over hear my mom saying that they were thinking of seeing if Dirk and this other lady would be interested in each other. I looked at my mother and immediately announced "why not me!" I guess she never thought since this guy was 35 and I was 24. Also, he was a man who had been my brother's best distant friend since college back when he was 21 and I have never met the man, but he knew my family, which is a plus! After socializing that night, I had a chance to talk with him, but I was still thrown by how I just could not get my self to look eye to eye with the guy. Following the wedding, Dirk had contacted my brother for my phone number. As I was staying in North Sioux City, SD for 5 weeks and he was living in the area too. We did not actually go out until 3 weeks after the wedding. The first night out with him, he and his friend were ready to go to Yuma and move me back to South Dakota, which I would not allow! The following 2 weeks we hung out everyday. We both like to eat and do the same activities which is awesome! I didn't want to leave after my 5 weeks because I wanted to get to know him more, so I extended my flight for another week and I did that 3x! So now I was suppose to arrive back to Yuma one day before orientation. The last week of my stay in South Dakota is when we both decided that I needed to stay! My family was for this too because they never wanted me to move that far away and they really liked this man. Well, Guess what? He drove 1700 miles to come get me and move me back to South Dakota! It was crazy and changes in my life were happening fast. It was kind of like a dream! Seriously, I never thought I would fall in love until I was a little older and I really never understood how 2 people can share the same house, bills, belongings, and get along so well. To this day, I have my brother to thank! We joke with him and ask him "Why he took so long to get married?" I now know there is a time for everything and this was the exact time. I have found my mate and he has found his! We have talked about marriage since our 3rd week of dating. I feel eternity with him and know that I am able to trust him and love him for the rest of my life. To me, I have found that you do not have to date for a long period of time to know that you have found the one, when you know you know!
